License Requirements, Fees, and Examination Information:
Persons operating wastewater treatment facilities must be certified.

Wastewater treatment operators employed at municipalities or privately-owned wastewater treatment facilities.

Fees: The fee varies with the level of certification.
Grade; Exam; Certification; Renewal
Grade I: $170; $140; $170
Grade II: $230; $180; $230
Grade III: $300; $350; $300
Grade IV: $340; $440; $340
Grade V: $340; $440; $340

Examination Frequency: Exams are given twice yearly (April and October).

Exam Locations: Fresno, Los Angeles, Redding, Sacramento, San Bernardino, San Diego, Santa Rosa, Monterrey, San Luis Obispo and Oakland.

Experience Requirement: Varies with certification level. Contact the Operator Certification unit or review the Operator Certification Regulations for specific information. Applicant must meet exam requirements, pass exam, and then meet certification requirements.

Average Time to Process Application: 30 days.

Renewal Period: Two years.
